OUR HISTORY
In 1929, brothers Murphey Pound and E.A. Pound started Murphey Pound General Contractors, a small commercial and renovation contractor, later restructured as Murphey Pound Construction Company, a partnership of E.A. Pound and William S. Pound in Columbus, Georgia. As The Company grew, it was later renamed Pound Construction Company and incorporated in 1959. In 1983, W.S. Pound Sr., W.S. Pound, Jr., and John E. Pound purchased The Company from E.A. Pound. In 1999, John Pound purchased The Company, and served as President until 2024. During the 1990's and 2000's, John grew The Company from small commercial projects and renovations, to building movie theatres across the United States for Carmike Cinemas, AMC, and other clients. In 2023, Mercer Clark joined The Company as a Project Manager, learning the business under the leadership of John Pound. Mercer graduated from Auburn University with degrees in Construction Management and Finance, as well as being a certified Commercial Pilot, before beginning his construction career with Rabren General Contractors ("RGC"). After Mercer's career with RGC, John and Mercer developed a vision for the future and growth of Pound Construction Company Inc. In 2024, Mercer Clark purchased the business and changed the name to Pound-Clark General Contractors, LLC. Today, Mercer Clark serves as President & CEO. In addition to his leadership at Pound-Clark, Mercer serves on the Board & Property Committee Chair of the Boys & Girls Club of Chattahoochee Valley.

Based in Columbus, Georgia, Pound-Clark continues its construction focus in retail, metal buildings, healthcare, multi-family, commercial, and industrial. After nearly 100 years in business, Our Success is a result of a strong work ethic, innovation, and a relentless commitment to Our Mission.
